Quarantina كرنتينا

Quarantina is both the name of a puppet character developed by artist Lamia Gouda, as well as the name of this NFT series. In an act of remembrance, urban revisitation, and defiance, Lamia Gouda took the belly dancing puppet on several trips in Cairo’s streets in 2020, to visit the site of the now demolished historical cabaret, The KitKat Club. During these public appearances, Lamia staged impromptu performances, and created a series of videos and images that document these ephemeral acts of activating lost histories of clandestine performance and of urban glory. A belly dancer who no longer exists, embodied in the object of the puppet, reflects on the disappearing art form, its theatres and clubs. From a global quarantine to a colonial lockdown on non-western artistic forms, Quarantina stands in for our locked-down body. Evoking Valeska Huber’s “Channeling Mobilities”, Lamia Gouda’s work activates a history of immobility, confinement, cultural erasure, urban amnesia and aborted projects

 كارنتينا هو اسم شخصية دمية طورتها الفنانة لمياء جودة بالإضافة إلى كونه اسم هذه المجموعة الفنية. أخذت لمياء جودة دمية الرقص الشرقي في عدة رحلات في شوارع القاهرة في عام 2020 ، لزيارة موقع الكباريه التاريخي المدمر الآن، كباريه كيت كات. خلال هذه الرحلات العامة، نظمت لمياء عروضًا مرتجلة، وقامت بتصوير مقاطع الفيديو والصور التي توثق تفعيل التاريخ المفقود للأداء والمجد الحضري المندثر. الراقصة التي لم تعد موجودة، تتجسد في الدمية، وتستحضر اختفاء ممارسات فنية عدة ومسارحها ونواديها. من الحجر الصحي العالمي إلى الإغلاق الاستعماري على الأشكال الفنية غير الغربية، تقف هذه الدمية في شوارع المدينة لتعبر عن جسدنا المغلق. استحضارًا لـفاليسكا هوبر وكتابها الشهيرعن تاريخ قناة السويس والاستعمار الثقافي، تقوم كارنتينا بتنشيط تاريخ من المحو الثقافي وفقدان الذاكرة الحضري والمشاريع التي تم إجهاضها
